Dash to the Sea, November 1944 by David Pentland. As allied forces pressed inland towards Caen, the 21st panzer Division launched a counterattack along a narrow three mile corridor between the Canadians on Juno beach and the British on Sword. the charge led by fifty tanks of 22nd panzer regiment and supporting Panzer grenadiers was engaged on its eastern flank by heavy British anti tank fire and the bulk of the force was pinned down or destroyed. ultimately only six PZ IVs and a company of infantry mannered to reach the coast at lion sur mer. their stay however was short lived and within a few hours the arrival of the transports and gliders of the British 6th Airborne directly overhead forced the entire division to pull back for fear of being trapped. |

Forty Eight Hours, Wajsma, Central Russia, 11th - 12th December 1942 by David Pentland. Wachtmeister Fritz Amling was a gun commander in 3rd Battery, Sturmgeschutz Battalion 202, in the Wajsma sector of the front at the start of the Soviet Operation Mars. During the first days fighting Amling, along with his gunner Bruno Guskowski, accounted for 24 enemy tanks, five of these in one minute! By the end of the second day, despite being wounded they had destroyed a further 18 tanks, a total of 42 in 48 hours. |

The 49th Division comprised of 1st Tyneside Scottish, 10th & 11th Durham Light Infantry, 4th Lincolnshire, 1/4th King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, the Hallamshire Battalion, 6th & 7th Duke of Wellingtons, and 11th Royal Scots Fusiliers. |
The Kaisers Battle, Operation Michael, France, 21st March 1918 by David Pentland. German Stosstruppen of the 18th Army, having broken through the British lines near St Quentin, engage secondary trench lines occupied by men of the 9th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (36th Ulster Division) . Similar attacks occurred right across the BEFs front, where the new tactics of short bombardments, infiltration, close air support, and non persistent gas had ripped open the British lines. |
The Last Bridge by David Pentland. Floridsdorf, Vienna, 3th April 1945. By mid April the Soviet assault had almost cleared German resistance from the south bank of the Danube. Only one small bridgehead remained open to allow troops a chance to escape, and this exit was defended by only 2 tanks and a few anti-tank guns. Defending the eastern approaches to the bridge was the Panther tank of SS Obersturmfuhrer Arnold Friesen, 2nd SS Panzer Division. Despite being only 19 he was a veteran of Kursk, Normandy, the Ardennes and Hungary with a tally of 97 tank kills to his credit. By the end of the day Friesen and his crew accounted for a further 14, (the last two with panzerfausts), before covering the final withdrawal of the last German units across the bridge under cover of darkness. |

M36 Tank Destroyers of A Company, 703rd TD Battalion are a welcome Christmas present for the Paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division. They would prove invaluable as they were the only US vehicle capable of handling the Panther or Tiger tanks. |
